Indiana DOE site hacked and taken down
11/04/2014
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Instead of going to the homepage of the Indiana Department of Education’s website Monday morning, people were being directed to a message purporting to be from a hacking organization. The message said the site had been hacked by the Nigeria Cyber Army, a group that in the past couple days listed on its Facebook page a number of government websites it had hacked. It’s unclear how long the site had been giving the message. As of 7 a.m., the site was no longer loading the message and still wasn’t loading the actual site.
Officials from the DOE released a statement around 9 a.m. Monday saying the site was hacked through a vulnerability in the content management system it uses to run the site. DOE officials do not believe any information on the site was compromised. The department’s information technology employees took the site down while working on fixing it. They expected the site would be down the rest of Monday.
