It is also nearly impossible to detect when such an AI is created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2015, Google developed AI software that was able to play \u2013 and regularly win \u2013 classic arcade games. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/nature14236\">Their findings<\/a> were detailed in the journal <em>Nature. <\/em>In 2018, a <a href=\"https:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/362\/6419\/1140\">study<\/a> published in <em>Science<\/em> outlined how AI can regularly master chess, shogi (Japanese version of chess), and Go (ancient Chinese strategy game) through self-play. Smartphone apps can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=W6Sp5nL4JE0&amp;feature=emb_title\">easily beat<\/a> world chess champions such as Magnus Carlsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Three_Laws_of_Robotics\">Three Laws of Robotics<\/a> are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.<\/li><li>A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.<\/li><li>A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the \u201cZeroth Law\u201d states that a robot may not harm humanity, or by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers from Tufts University\u2019s Human-Robot Interaction Lab are trying to develop mechanisms for robots to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0tu4H1g3CtE\">reject orders<\/a> received from humans, as long as they have a legitimate reason to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, researchers are warning that any program written to stop AI from harming humans (and destroying the world while they\u2019re at it) might conclude to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Halting_problem\">halt<\/a> or not. Mathematically, it is impossible for us to be absolutely sure which route the AI will take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An alternative would be to teach the AI \u201cethics\u201d of sorts and order it to <em>not<\/em> destroy the world. Researchers say this limits the super-intelligence capabilities and would force the AI to be cut off from parts of the internet or specific networks. Moreover, this defeats the purpose of creating AI in the first place: If the AI isn\u2019t going to be used to solve problems beyond a human scope, then why exist in the first place?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As AI research expands, we might not recognize when the super-intelligence beyond human control forms.
